A BILL to amend and reenact section one, article five, chapter
eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine
hundred thirty-one, as amended, relating to county boards of
education; elections for board members; and requiring
redistricting of counties for purposes of electing board
members.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That section one, article five, chapter eighteen of the code
of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as
amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 5. COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
§18-5-1. Supervision and control of county school districts;
number, nomination and election of members.
Each county school district shall be under the supervision
and control of a county board of education, which shall be
composed of five members, nominated and elected by the voters of
the respective county without reference to political partyaffiliation. No more than two members shall be elected from the
same
magisterial district.
The county commission of each county
shall cause a redistricting of the county, prior to the primary
election to be held in the year one thousand nine hundred ninety-
six, so that there are five districts in the county, of equal
geographic distribution, from which the members are nominated and
elected.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require five equal
geographic districts for each county from which county board of
education members are to be elected.
